Stop Making Half Page Articles Five Pages Long

You know what I would like to see go away in 2008? Web Zines that make you click “next” through five pages for an article that is maybe a half page long so they can up their banner impression count.

Recently I saw a Digg that linked to a Time article about the 25 best something or other for 2007. They had you click through ten pages to see their lousy blah blah. In the end you felt ripped off. I clicked through all these pages for this crap?

Probably most readers never heard of Time magazine. Well ok, the old folks do. It was a print magazine that is probably dying a miserable death. Who the heck reads that crappy propaganda nowadays? They must be suffering because it looks like their web site is somehow affiliated with CNN. Yeah even some young folks know who CNN is…not that most young people give a damn about CNN.

Oops I got off topic.

Another advertising strategy that sucks are those ads that you get full-page when you go to some homepages. you know the ones I mean, they usually have a link to skip and go straight to the good stuff. Which I suppose is what most people do.
Those ads suck. A lot of times I just hit my back button and forget about reading whatever it was that I was trying to get to because you suck for blocking my road to your good stuff. You are an asshole.
If you think that you are the only web site that has whatever article people are trying to read you are sadly mistaken. Folks in 10 minutes, or less, any exclusivity you may have had is over in Internet time. Whatever content you are blocking with your crappy advertising will be all over the place. Probably with better quality and more detail.

Its stupid decisions like these ad placements and forcing your readers to page through a dozen pages for your content that are causing you to die. You need to get an ad agency who gets it if you are unable to get it by yourself. Sell your stuff by making friends with your readers not by insulting them. Be a good host when guests come to visit. It will get you further.
